We often employ Madras patterns on more sturdy fabrics, but this featherlight, 3 oz shirting is probably closest in character to the original Madras brought over from India. The difference is that, instead of Madras' traditional gauzy construction that wrinkles easily and is prone to tears, this is a sophisticated shirting fabric that's more densely knit of ultra-fine cotton yarns, making it more resilient and vibrant.
